On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 4:30 PM in Madrid, the Spanish Brain Council and the Ramón Areces Foundation will host a scientific conference on the growing international trend of involving patients and the public in health research. This approach shifts from a traditional model focused solely on researchers to one in which affected individuals actively participate throughout the entire process—from study design to dissemination—making research more relevant, ethical, and socially responsible. The conference will explore the challenges and opportunities of public participation in brain health research, particularly in conditions affecting cognition or communication, and will bring together leading experts, patient association representatives, researchers, and institutions to discuss the current state of the field and pathways toward truly inclusive research.
