Danish Brain Council

Danish Brain Council

The purpose of the Danish Brain Council (est. 2024) is to work to create a focus on better brain health for the entire population, through information, research, prevention and treatment.

The Danish Brain Council must strengthen and support the members’ work and make the common denominators visible.

The Danish Brain Council was established in June 2024 and it has currently 28 members.

The Finnish Brain Council (est. 2012) aims at promoting evidence-based brain health. The society works to support brain research strategies and for the benefit of patients suffering from brain and nervous system illnesses through initiatives for policy makers, authorities, and by publishing and educating. The Finnish Brain Council acts as a co-operative body of its member organizations and maintains connections with the European Brain Council and with other national and international stakeholders advancing brain health and research.

French Brain Council

The French Brain Council (est. 2016) is a trans-disciplinary national non profit association founded by the French societies of neurology, neurosciences and psychiatry as well as a college of patients associations. It aims at promoting brain research in France through dialogue between science, medicine and society, and at fostering efficiency and ethics in basic and clinical research on brain diseases.

German Brain Council

The German Brain Council  (GBC) (est. 2018) organizes scientific events and conducts research projects in order to advance knowledge on diseases of the central nervous system, to the benefit of patients. The GBC also engages in science policy lobbying in Germany and across Europe. An important long-term goal of the GBC is the creation of a National Plan for Diseases of the Brain in Germany.

Norwegian Brain Council

Norwegian Brain Council

The Norwegian Brain Council (est. 2007) has currently 58 member organisations; ranging from health professionals associations (including most medical professions working with brain disease and specialist nurses), patient´organizations and medical and scientific institutions and groups. The Norwegian Brain Council aims to promote prevention, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of brain disease, to engage public interest in the brain and to promote research related to brain diseases and function. A main part of our work is dedicated to lobby work and to follow-up of the Norwegian Brain Strategy, launched in 2017. The current chair of the Board is Anette Storstein, MD PhD, and the CEO is Aud Kvalbein.

Portuguese Brain Council

The Portuguese Brain Council (est. 2017) is a non-profit association, gathering six scientific societies and five patient associations, that aims to promote brain research, improve the quality of life of patients affected by brain disorders, advance the understanding of the human brain and stimulate translational research. Our recent initiatives aim to raise awareness amongst decision-makers and government officials about the need to invest into brain research and address the burden that mental and neurological diseases impose on society.

The Serbian Brain Council (SrBC) (est. 2015)  (president prof. Pavle R. Andjus) is a member of the European Brain Council (EBC) with observer status. Its goal is to serve as an umbrella non-profit organization to work with Serbian associations and institutions as well as with patient organizations in the field of neurology, psychiatry and neurosciences. SrBC was elected to delegate one of the two liaisons of the National Brain Councils to EBC. Among its members is its founder academician Vladimir Kostić, president of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts who was also elected as an EBC Ambassador.

The Spanish Brain Council (est. 2009) is a Federation of Associations whose objectives are improving the quality of life of people suffering from brain diseases, promoting clinical Research to combat brain diseases and their consequences, promoting better understanding of brain diseases in Spanish society through training, providing information and promoting formative and informative actions against the physical and social barriers that suffer the people who suffer some disease of the brain and reducing the physical and social barriers that affect people with brain afflictions.

The Swedish Brain Foundation (est. 1994) depends entirely on donations. It finances research, we inform the general public and we advocate to make change for the better. Its areas of engagement cover all parts of the brain and all diagnoses. They carry through their own and others’ engagement via different initiatives, cooperations and partnerships. Their goal is to save lives, fight the unhealthy brain and work for all the affected including their families.
