Joint Workshop at EPA 2025 Congress: “No Health Without Brain Health & the Brain Health Mission: Raising Awareness & Putting the Brain on the Top of the Policy Agenda”
The European Psychiatric Association (EPA) community is growing fast, as testified by the increasing number of members and the numerous activities the EPA is organising. Many of the community members are young and clinically oriented, and it is this clinical orientation that is highlighted in the motto of the 2025 Madrid Congress “Towards Real-World Solutions in Mental Health”. Next to excellent and ground-breaking research, one of the core interests of EPA is the clinical translation of these findings and the sharing of good practices.
EBC President Suzanne Dickson will speak during a joint workshop on ‘No Health Without Brain Health & the Brain Health Mission: Raising Awareness & Putting the Brain on the Top of the Policy Agenda’. This workshop represents a collaboration between EPA, the European Academy of Neurology (EAN), the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS) and EBC. Other speakers of this workshop include Peter Falkai, EBC Treasurer, Paul Boon, Past EAN President and Tomás Ryan, Neuroscientist at Trinity College Dublin.
Society is facing brain challenges like never before — improving the health and wellbeing of citizens has become the top priority for many governments and brain health should not be left behind. The No Health Without Brain Health campaign aims to put a spotlight on the urgency of addressing the growing burden, the socioeconomic impacts and the need to significantly increase investment in the brain R&D space. You can learn more about the No Health Without Brain Health campaign here.
To achieve this, effective prevention, early detection, and intervention strategies are equally important, as well as investments in research, innovative treatments, and integrated healthcare systems. The collaborative Brain Health Mission is rooted in evidence-based research that underscores the importance of a holistic approach to brain and mental health, and to the needs of people, patients, and their carers and families.
This workshop will take place in Auditoriom A from 15:00 – 16:30 on Monday April 7, 2025.

Suzanne L Dickson is a neurobiologist and Professor of Neuroendocrinology at the University of Gothenburg. She graduated with a Ph.D. in Neuroendocrinology from the University of Cambridge in 1993, where she later became Senior Lecturer in Physiology. She is a leading figure in neuroendocrinology and works within many European Union and international organisations and societies to promote research, facilitate grant funding and training of Early Career Scientists. Her research into the neurobiology of appetite aims to unravel neurobiological pathways that respond to orexigenic signals, such as the hormone, ghrelin, and that drive feeding behaviours, not only food intake but also food choice, food anticipation, food reward and food motivation. This work involves mostly preclinical studies and includes behavioural tasks, viral vector mapping, chemogenetics and RNAscope. She is President of the European Brain Council and Secretary of the European College for Neuropsychopharmacology.
EBC is looking forward to seeing you and the whole EPA community in Madrid!
EBC’s participation in the EPA 2025 congress goes beyond this advocacy workshop. Come find our e-poster presentation on the Rethinking Schizophrenia Care Pathway project and do not hesitate to stop by our booth in the exhibition space to learn more about EBC’s current projects and upcoming events!
