On 16 June 2025, the European Brain Data Hub was officially certified as a recognized data altruism organization in the European Union. This international non-profit association—which I have had the privilege of supporting for the past three years—brings together the Belgian Brain Council, the Conseil Français du Cerveau (FBC), the German Brain Council (GBC), and the Hellenic Brain Council. Its mission is to promote and facilitate the altruistic sharing of mental health data by patients, addressing a critical gap in research caused by the lack of available data in this field. This initiative would not have been possible without the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which enables the association to obtain, on behalf of patients, copies of their personal health data that they voluntarily wish to share—a process we have successfully tested in practice this year. With this new certification, the Data Governance Act further strengthens the credibility of the association’s work at the European level. The organization is now set to launch its activities in France on October 9 under favorable conditions.
