This year’s February 14th, Valentine’s Day, marked the official launch of #ILoveMyBrain, a campaign started by EBC with the goal of raising greater awareness of brain disorders – mental and neurological – as well as greater recognition of the need to look after our most valuable asset: our brain.

In the run up to our Valentine’s Day launch, EBC teamed up with local artisan Belgian chocolatier Centho Chocolates to give away ten boxes of handcrafted chocolates to those who entered our Twitter competition. To be entered into the competition, participants had to retweet an article published by EBC on brain awareness, and answer the question of each day. The man behind Centho Chocolates, Geert Decoster, spoke about the issue: “Chocolate is definitely one of the finer things in life. Everyone wants to enjoy life as fully as possible, for as long as possible. Brain health is becoming a real concern for more and more families, and I’m happy to support the work of the European Brain Council in promoting brain research.”

As part of our launch on Valentine’s Day, EBC created a Thunderclap campaign to help spread the message and #ILoveMyBrain logo even further. Thunderclap is a social media tool and the first-ever crowdspeaking platform that helps people be heard by saying something together. It allows a single message to be mass-shared, flash mob-style, so it rises above the noise of your social networks. The message EBC created was simple: “It’s time we show our brains some love. #ILoveMyBrain because brain health matters to all”. The message was scheduled to go out on Valentine’s Day, a day of love, the perfect day to remind us all to love and take care of our brain. It is with great pleasure that we announce the huge success of the Thunderclap campaign, which resulted in us achieving beyond our goal of 250 supporters, accumulating a total social outreach of 592,022 people across social media platforms, Twitter and Facebook.

We would like to thank all of you who supported our Thunderclap and for helping us achieve this great success, which we hope to extend to future projects, campaigns and initiatives. We would also like to remind you that the #ILoveMyBrain initiative and logo are not ‘owned’ by EBC. We encourage you to use it to help promote any activity connected to brain health – social media campaigns, events, workshops and so on.

To download the #ILoveMyBrain logo and read about the principles of use click here.

From all of us at EBC, we wish you a happy Valentine’s & a brain-loving day.

Valentine’s Day – a day of love. And love is not just romance, it’s also respect, affection, appreciation and nurturing. So this year, the European Brain Council wants you to show your brain some love. Think about the abilities you enjoy because your brain stays faithful, and the precious moments you can look back on because your brain helps you hold onto them all. Movement, vision, smell, conversation, work, fun – it’s all possible because our brain puts in the effort. There are hundreds of ways to take care of your brain – stay physically and mentally active, eat a healthy diet, control your blood pressure, get enough sleep, manage your stress levels…

And as you’re thinking about loving your brain, keeping it healthy, we want to show you the #ILoveMyBrain logo, which we are launching on Valentine’s Day. It’s with that thought – “I Love My Brain”, that researchers, patients, carers, medical professionals, politicians, journalists are all working to reduce the prevalence of brain disorders. Although our projects vary and our focus is on different conditions, we believe that we can all identify with #ILoveMyBrain. With a shared logo, the public and the media can more easily recognize the vast scale of the work being done on brain disorders, and their enormous impact on society.

In every country, across Europe and around the world, we encourage you to use the #ILoveMyBrain logo, which can be downloaded here, and the hashtag #ILoveMyBrain to help promote any activity that is connected to brain health and brain research. All your fundraisers, your policy events, your publicity campaigns, your research projects, your health promotion programs; in government, hospitals, universities, schools and community centres – if you’re working for brain health, we welcome you to use the logo. We are all part of this enormous push to show the world how much we love and need our brains. We hope that over the next few years the logo becomes a symbol, as recognizable as those other symbols which have been so effective in attracting resources to important diseases – the pink ribbon for breast cancer, the red ribbon for HIV. And the world will be reminded how much #ILoveMyBrain.

Valentine’s Day Chocolate Competition – starts Monday 6th February 2017

He won first prize at the 2013 International Chocolate Awards, and labours in his workshop in Flanders to create innovative and irresistible chocolates. His approach is to use ‘origin chocolate’ – one piece will contain only chocolate from a single country, each with a unique flavor from some exotic location – Brazil, Colombia, Uganda, Vietnam, among many.
