DicksonPresident\, European Brain CouncilProfessor Suzanne L Dickson is a neurobiologist and Professor of Neuroendocrinology at the University of Gothenburg. She graduated with a Ph.D. in Neuroendocrinology from the University of Cambridge in 1993\, where she later became Senior Lecturer in Physiology. She is a leading figure in neuroendocrinology and works within many European Union and international organisations and societies to promote research\, facilitate grant funding and training of Early Career Scientists. Her research into the neurobiology of appetite aims to unravel neurobiological pathways that respond to orexigenic signals\, such as the hormone\, ghrelin\, and that drive feeding behaviours\, not only food intake but also food choice\, food anticipation\, food reward and food motivation. This work involves mostly preclinical studies and includes behavioural tasks\, viral vector mapping\, chemogenetics and RNAscope. She is Secretary and Executive Board member of the European College for Neuropsychopharmacology\, and also chairs ECNP’s Workshop for Early Career Scientists in Europe. She also is founder and co-chair of ECNP’s nutrition network and EBRA’s BRAINFOOD cluster. \nDaniel WójcikMember\, IBRO Pan-Europe Regional CommitteeProfessor Daniel Wójcik is a member of the IBRO Pan-Europe Regional Committee. He is a Professor and Head of the Laboratory of Neuroinformatics at the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology\, Polish Academy of Sciences\, in Poland. Due to such a high disease burden and considering the associated costs for society\, the EU and its Member States have made considerable investments in brain research leading to a significant increase of initiatives in this area. \nEffective and efficient collaboration and cooperation is often identified as a key success factor to achieve the full impact of brain research for the wider brain community. DESCRIPTION:Join the Centre for Future Generations & EBC for a forward-looking discussion on Europe’s future approach to neurotech governance and strategy on April 13th\, 2026. \nNeurotechnology is moving fast. From new treatments for neurological and mental health conditions to consumer brain-computer devices marketed directly to individuals\, this field is reshaping healthcare but also raising profound ethical and societal questions. What would allowing these technologies to permeate into everyday life without clear rules and safeguards mean for society? Europe is already a global leader\, with the world’s second-largest neurotechnology sector. Yet despite its economic strength and strategic relevance\, neurotechnology remains largely absent from the EU’s political agenda. \nThe recent adoption of the European Charter for the Responsible Development of Neurotechnologies\, led by the European Brain Council\, as well as UNESCO’s first global normative framework\, mark significant steps towards operationalising a clear ethical standards for neurotechnology. But the work is not done. With growing international momentum and appetite for neurotechnology devices in the United States and China\, Europe is at a pivotal point where it must move to shape the future of neurotechnology in line with its values\, or risk falling behind. \nThis high-level convening\, organised with the European Brain Council (EBC) and supported by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC)\, comes at a decisive moment.
