The Oxford Participation and Activities Questionnaire (Ox-PAQ) Initiative is run by the Health Service Research Unit, Nuffield Department of Population Health of the University of Oxford. The Ox-PAQ Initiative aims to develop a short patient reported outcome measure designed specifically to assess participation, activities and level of independence. The intention is to develop a short measure which will assess (i) the ability of individuals to engage in activities (such as work, hobbies, daily routines), and (ii) the level of dependency an individual has on others.

Cognitive interviews to assess the usability and acceptability of the e-based Ox-PAQ were completed in February. Six interviews were conducted; four with people with multiple sclerosis and two with people with Parkinson’s. Ethical approval has been granted for e-based survey to assess the sensitivity to change of the Ox-PAQ, which has commenced at the beginning of April. Four organizations have granted their support with participant recruitment for this phase of the Ox-PAQ’s development: the British Lung Foundation, Motor Neurone Disease Association, Multiple Sclerosis Society and Parkinson’s UK.

The first abstract for 2016 has been accepted for presentation at the 2nd Congress of the European Academy of Neurology which will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark, from 28 to 31 May. The abstract will be published in a supplement of the European Journal of Neurology.
