EBC member EFNA releases results of Survey of Young Europeans with Neurological Conditions on #WorldBrainDay

In celebration of World Brain Day 2018, the European Federation of Neurological Associations (EFNA) has released results of its recent Survey of Young Europeans with Neurological Conditions: https://www.efna.net/EFNAYoungPeopleSurvey

Between March 12th and May 15th 2018, 1368 responses to the survey were received from 39 countries. Almost 80% of the respondents were female, with the majority of the responses coming from the below disease areas:

• Multiple Sclerosis
• Myalgic Encephalomyelitis
• Chronic Pain
• Migraine

The top concern cited by respondents was ‘access to medication/treatment’, followed closely by ‘isolation’ and ‘stigma’. This isolation and stigma could be attributed to the lack of public understanding of brain disorders. Overall, respondents rated understanding of both brain disorders and their own conditions at 2.5/10.  A lack of understanding was also clearly shown amongst family, friends and employers.

Information gathered from this survey will be used in the development of EFNA’s future workplans, ensuring that they and their member organisations are working in the best interests of those they represent.

Please help to disseminate the results of this survey by sharing it with your network via email, newsletters and social media – and encourage others to do the same!

Responses to the survey have shown that a gulf exists between the aspirations of those affected by neurological conditions, and others. EFNA are encouraging people to share their #BrainLifeGoals on social media to increase awareness of the issues faced everyday. Join in today!
